Again, it’s been a long time since we posted last. In that period of time we traveled to the Black Hills of South Dakota and back. We took a trip to Yosemite with the family. And we just finished a 5 week trip to the Philippines. That trip will be in an upcoming post.

Wow, it’s no wonder I didn’t post anything! Not really, it’s just that I’m not dedicated enough to write about our travels and our thoughts on our trips. Part of the reason is that I have taken on a second vocation as a volleyball referee. Yes a ref! Our boys have been involved in competitive volleyball at the High School level, Club, and thru College. One still continues as a coach for boys’ volleyball in northern California. I took on the refereeing partly because of my familiarity with the sport and a lot for the income. I will continue that until the BrightWayRVrs RV rental business becomes profitable. Or now we want to be financially clear on our assets before we regard the rentals as an income stream. This is all part of the overall plan to begin Full-timing by the tiem the DW retires from teaching in 3 years or so.

To summarize our tips I’ll provide a brief summary of each trip followed by selected photos of our travels. Once I fully master our video editing software I’ll provide corresponding videos on our You Tube channel. One final note is that we have listed Lakbay our class A Damon Intruder on rental websites (Outdoorsy www.Outdoorsy.com for now) to rent it. This will hopefully speed up the process of getting it paid off and leading us to the acquisitions of more RVs for rental and eventually our home on the road when Sally retires.

To Rushmore!

After setting up Winnie our Class A for rental thru Family RV in Morgan Hill, CA we set out on our first big trip in Lakbay (pronounced lock-by) our Class A Damon Intruder. This was a 18 day trip, really too rushed, to visit Mt Rushmore in South Dakota. Along the way we saw beautiful country and some very interesting roadside attractions such as Wall Drugstore in Wall, South Dakota. If you ever watched M.A.S.H. you’ll notice a sign in Radar’s office for Wall Drug. We visited Devil’s Tower, The Black Hills, Garden of the Gods, Durango, Grand Canyon, etc. The trip’s last stop was in Acton, CA to visit the twins in L.A. (View the Galleries below)

The big downers for the trip were two events.

First the car dolly that we were towing with our toad attached became unattached in Sterling, CO. Fortunately we were going slowly thru and intersection in town when this happened and we were able to pull off to asses and temporarily repair the damage. Apparently the hitch pin somehow broke the cotter pin and then worked itself out, allowing the trailer hitch to slide out from the receiver. The chains held.

Second, the RV door handle latch broke on our way to the Sky Ute Casino near Durango, CO. We were locked in Lakbay with the only way out thru the emergency escape window. With the help of some very fine security personnel from the casino and the best camp hosts in the world (Carl and Roberta) at the casino RV resort, we were able to overcome that experience.

Overall the trip was wonderful and a great learning experience on living the RV lifestyle.
